Environs Launches Poipoia te Kākano

In October 2024, Environs proudly launched Poipoia te Kākano – Nurture the Seed and It Will Grow, a conservation initiative deeply rooted in whakapapa and kaupapa. At its heart, the project is about restoring and protecting the Kaipara region’s biodiversity–threatened by invasive predators and the impact of Kauri dieback. The quietening of the songbirds serves as a constant reminder of how vital the health of the land is to the wellbeing of our communities.

Environs oversees the Poipoia te Kākano project, working alongside Predator Free 2050 Limited to show the eradication of predators is possible. Together, they aim to restore the mauri and mana of the land. The programme focuses on three key objectives:

  • Restore and Protect Biodiversity – Safeguarding native species and the ecosystems they thrive in.
  • Restore the Wellbeing of the Kaipara Land and Community – Rebuilding a stronger, healthier environment for both the land and its people.
  • Co-management – Bringing together different entities to work for a common purpose in protecting and nurturing the land.

This collaborative effort is about more than just conservation—it is about reawakening the connection we all share with the whenua, and inspiring future generations to carry the responsibility forward. Our determination to succeed is rooted in the vision of a land restored, where the richness and vitality of the environment flourish once more.
